Rumors

a new comedy by

Neil Simon

Presented by Duncan Little Theatre

Rumors is exactly what you expect from the genius of Neil Simon.  It is a fast paced farce with a convoluted plot involving four couples who gather to celebrate a tenth wedding anniversary of their best friends.  The setting is the present and the characters are only too real.  In watching the play, one finds themselves immediately identifying with similar situations in their own life, complete with dialogues which lead to rumors and misunderstandings between husbands, wives, and friends. In trying to protect the reputation of a friend, the play builds to a comic mayhem that literally will keep you laughing throughout the play.

After arriving at the anniversary party, the guests soon discover an apparent attempted suicide (or is it?), a missing wife, missing cook, a complete dinner laid out for preparation (but uncooked), and no one else in the house.  Add to this a damaged car, whiplash, a reoccurring back spasm, and discoveries about each other, while trying to hide the truth, all lead to rumors galore.
